Arlen Ness Digger – 1975 Honda CB550

Post Sale Update: This custom CB550 sold for a lowered BIN of $6,999 in Silverton, Oregon.

Per the seller, this custom digger was built by Arlen Ness in the late 70s. He bought it approximately 25 years ago, rode it for a few years, sold it, then found it again a few months ago and bought it back. However, “I’m 25 years older, I’m not that cool any more and I’m about to move into a smaller place without a garage. So…I’ve decided to release her back into the wild again.

It has never been registered and is supposed to just be a show bike, though the seller can include an old Massachusetts title if the next owner wants to make it street legal as it runs and all the lights work. The seller notes some changes since he last owned it – the chrome wheels and battery box have been powdercoated silver, and there’s a few switches as well as a clock. One quote got my attention: “It goes down the road surprisingly straight…it’s very low and doesn’t handle speed bumps or bumpy roads at all.” Surprisingly straight is not a combination of words I like seeing with regards to a motorcycle, but I guess that’s the nature of the beast when it comes to these kinds of customs.
