1983 BMW R80GS

In Dual-Sport, Germany by Abhi2 Comments

Post-Sale Update: This R80GS sold for $5,700 after just the opening bid. Arguably the motorcycle that created the ‘adventure bike’ segment, the R80GS (and successors) has been invaluable to BMW. It’s also becoming harder and harder to find a good example.

1979 Harley-Davidson XLCR Custom

In America, Cafe Racer, Custom by Abhi5 Comments

I’ve featured plenty of XLCR’s in the past, as I find them to be such an interesting departure from what one would normally expect from Harley. Here’s one that’s been customized with an aluminum tank, aftermarket shocks, and more. The bike (VIN: (VIN: 3A21911H9)has a bit over 10,000 miles and unfortunately the listing does not come with much information. Do …

2014 Norton Commando 961 Sport

In England, Sport by Abhi2 Comments

Post Sale Update: After 23 bids on eBay, this 961 Sport sold for $16,995. The ‘base model’ (quite a relative term in this case) of the Norton Commando 961, the Sport lacks some of the extras seen on the SF or Cafe Racer like a carbon chainguard, upside down forks, and remote Brembo master cylinders. Still, there’s a significant waiting …

1983 Maico 490 Sand Spider

In Germany, Off-Road by Abhi1 Comment

I’ve featured varying forms of the Maico 490 because the bikes are just so damn good. Per Rick Sieman, “In 1983, Maico came out with even more outrageous power. It was so good, so flexible, so usable, that to this very day, it’s held up as a standard for modern MX bikes to shoot for.” What I’ve never featured before …

This article from Motocross Action Magazine notes that the AJS Stormer (initially available with a 250cc engine) was originally offered for about $1250 – though Suzuki almost immediately started offering bikes for about 30% cheaper. You know how the story goes. Apparently from ’74 on, you could find an …

1966 Wards Riverside 450SS

In America, Italy, Small Displacement by Abhi5 Comments

Post-Sale Update: After 13 bids on eBay, this Fireball sold for $1,700. Despite the name, this bike (a rebadged Benelli Fireball sold out of Montgomery Wards stores) has a 49cc engine. Maybe the name translates to “4” – number of gears in the transmission and “50” – displacement?
