In Dual-Sport, Japan by AbhiLeave a Comment

Honda’s bringing the Africa Twin back this year, though it never officially made it to the US in the first place. Our Canadian brethern were lucky enough to get the XRV750 generation – it’s become a cult classic over the years. Because of this, it’s hard to find an AT in the States, but maybe someone ambitious feels like importing this example from Canada. This generation of the Africa Twin is quite popular as it was based on the NXR-750 which won the Paris-Dakar rally four times.

In 1993, the Africa Twin got a redesign which included engine mods and a new plastics/frame. Typically, motorcycle manufacturers adjust an engine for more power over the lifetime of a model, but Honda instead revised the XRV’s engine for reliability over peak figures. Still, you got 60 horsepower and 46 pound feet of torque from the understressed engine, which is enough to take you wherever you want to go at about 35 miles per gallon. Keep up with regular maintenance and keep a spare CDI on the bike, and you should be set forever.

This example has just under 22,000 miles and it’s been sitting in the seller’s garage for 3 years. The seller himself has owned three of these bikes and says this example was too nice to beat up. A set of hard cases (either Metal Mule or Touratech) is included, and you’ll get a set of crash bars, a Corbin seat, and the original skid plate (which isn’t shown in photos). Before you enjoy this off-road legend, you’ll also need to clean the carbs.
