Last year, reader Gary K and his wife hosted Vy and I for a few days so we could check out the Albuquerque International Balloon Festival. Today, he just sent me this photo from this year’s show of what is now my favorite hot air balloon of all time. After a little research I discovered that this was originally built …

Meet Jock Stares, a rider who’s still enjoying two wheels of transportation at the age of 101. May we all be so lucky.
Video Intermission – 34th Annual Italian Motorcycle Owners Club Meet
This weekend, my home state of Massachusetts hosted the 34th annual meeting of the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club. Thanks to unseasonably warm weather, they had a great turnout of some lovely bikes.
Video Intermission – The First Ride by MCM
Mighty Car Mods is all about two Aussie friends that love cars and it’s actually the world’s #1 DIY automotive show on YouTube. They have a supplemental channel with extras and behind the scenes stuff, and that’s where they’ve just shared a video about the conversion of a Suzuki GN250.
Video Intermission – The American Wall of Death
When Revival Cycles puts on the annual Handbuilt Show in Austin, Texas, they provide some evening entertainment in the form of a Wall of Death show. A 5 minute short is one of The Vintagent Selects, and it’s worth a view:
Video Intermission – Akrapovič’s Tribute to Superbikes
Akrapovič recently released a video to share their passion for making exhausts for the current crop of superbikes. It’s short and the audio and visuals are excellent, so give it a quick look!
Story Intermission – Two Small ADV Bikes up California’s Highest Road
About a month ago, my buddy Charles Fleming at the LA Times let me know that he had an idea for a story: the highest motorable road in California is a dirt route to Barcroft Station on White Mountain. They open the road twice a year to the public – would I want to join him for a ride to …
Video Intermission – 2018 Kawasaki Z900RS Teaser
This video infuriates me because it’s so short and there’s more footage of girls playing billiards than any motorcycle, but I guess it’s a successful teaser because now I’ve got 10/25 marked on my calendar. Most of you guys and gals are here because you like the classics, and Kawasaki’s legendary Z1 has always been a popular bike when I’ve …

As I mentioned in “Part 3.5” of Jim’s Moto Giro story, I ended up in Arizona with Chris Cantle and Julia LaPalme for a story with Motorcyclist magazine. If you weren’t able to snag a copy, the story is now available online.
Story Intermission – Joyce Maynard in the New York Times
Motorcycles don’t get enough coverage in mainstream publications, so I was pleasantly surprised when Vy sent over this bittersweet tale by author Joyce Maynard in the New York Times. It’s worth a read, and hopefully it inspires you to take a trip soon.

Video Intermission – Jay Leno with the Vanderhall Venice
Whenever Jay features a motorcycle on his YouTube show, I try to pass it along. This technically qualifies as a motorcycle, so here you go!
Interview Intermission – Andy Goldfine, Founder of Aerostich
If you’ve been following Bike-urious for a while, you’ll know that I’ve been a fan of Aerostich gear from the beginning. Unless I’m wearing something for a review or need to be in a specific style, my default gear is typically a Transit 2 jacket and Combat Touring Boots. My go-to on longer trips is the Roadcrafter R-3. It’s not …
Video Intermission – A Motorcycle Made of Bones
Sturgis has wrapped up and one of the most photographed motorcycles was not a bike at all. Keith Booth is a new resident of Sturgis and he used over 150 cow bones to create a sculpture called Rapid. He assembled what you see here over a 30 hour period and the sculpture is for sale for $3,500.
Owner’s Manual Intermission – 1958 Zundapp 200S
Bob Kelly and his buddy just acquired a rough Zundapp 200S, but it came with the “Operation Maintenance Manual” and Bob thought that you (yes, you) would get a kick out of it.
