Post Sale Update: This Dax sold for $2,751.01 after 22 bids on eBay. Honda’s ST series of minibikes were called the Trail in North America, though Europe and Japan knew them as the Dax. One of the variants in Japan that the US never got was a mini chopper, but one of them was brought over by an American serviceman …
2016 Yamaha FZ-09
It’s hard to believe these days that Yamaha was ever hard up, but around 2010 the brand had gotten a reputation of being a bit bland. Yamaha’s response was a triumph of motorcycling: when they were done, they had one of the best reviewed engines (and bikes) of 2014 and beyond. Yamaha’s head designer called it a “roaster motard”. We …
One Owner – 1983 Suzuki XN85 Turbo
Post Listing Update: This XN85 did not meet reserve despite 17 bids up to $5,300 on eBay. 5-13-2019 Update: This XN85 sold almost three years ago, but now that buyer is looking to move on. It’s since moved across the country but the owner has put less than 200 miles on it. Find it in Waitsfield, Vermont with bidding up …
Not Sold in the US – 1997 Honda Z50J Monkey 30th Anniversary
Post Listing Update: This 30th Anniversary Monkey did not meet reserve despite 8 bids up to $4,051 on eBay in Saint John, Indiana. To celebrate the ’67 Z50M (which wasn’t sold in the US either), Honda produced a 30th Anniversary edition of the Monkey that brought back the white paint, red frame, tartan seat, and “Old Wing” logo.
Making Fast Faster – Kawasaki H1R Tribute Build
When Kawasaki first debuted the H1 500 Mach III, it was easily the fastest half-liter production bike in the world. The next year, the labcoats at Team Green cranked the potent triple up a few notches with the release of the factory race-version of the two-stroke three-banger, known as the “H1R”.
No Reserve – 1965 Honda S90
Post Sale Update: This S90 sold for $4,150 after 47 bids on eBay. Considering that a Honda S90 provided the inspiration for the Bike-urious logo, it’s been too long since I’ve featured one.
Baja 1000 Entrant – 2002 Honda XR650R
Post Listing Update: The asking price was lowered to $2,000, but then this XR was pulled off of eBay (final sale price unknown). Though this Honda was once full of glory, competing in the Baja 1000, it’s now sitting in a pawn shop. Here’s hoping someone can get it back on the dirt!
300 Miles in Canada – 1985 Honda Elite 150
The Honda Elite is one of the most common scooters of the 80s. It was introduced in 1984 as a 125cc model, though the next year it became a 150. It was sold in the US for another three years. The “Elite” title was given to a family of models ranging from 50 to 250cc. It was known as the …
D’Hollander Built – 1979 Dholda Honda CB900F
Post Sale Update: After being relisted, this Dholda sold for $4,050 after 7 bids on eBay. Dholda is the name of a custom Belgian race shop founded by Jean D’Hollander – he got the moniker by blending his last name with Honda. He also happened to be quite successful, with victories in multiple endurance races at Mugello, the Bol d’Or, …
Pick Your Color – 1972 Honda CL450 Scrambler
Restored by Bighouse Choppers (which from what I can tell, started inside a Nevada State Prison), this Honda CL450 has bodywork in both Magna Red or Planet Blue, so you can mix it up and pretend like you have two bikes.
One Owner with No Reserve – 1982 Kawasaki GPz1100
Post Sale Update: This GPz sold for $5,226 after 7 bids on ebay in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The last air-cooled large-displacement twin shock bike from Kawi, the GPz1100 was a superbike with a cockpit fairing, fuel injection, and lots of incremental upgrades over the Z1000 that it replaced.
Classic Japanese MX Collection in Arizona
Not much to say here – a seller in Phoenix has a collection of 8 gorgeous Japanese dirt bikes from the 70s-80s that he’s looking to sell as a unit.
No Reserve – 1972 Honda CB750
Post Sale Update: This CB sold for $5,900 after 35 bids on eBay in Los Angeles, California. Honda’s CB750 is a decade-defining motorcycle for most, and this is a lovely example of the K2 with just 7,000 miles, 200 of which came after a mechanical rebuild with “all genuine Honda and/or NOS parts”.
2005 Kawasaki ZRX1200
Do you know what to me makes Kawasaki just a bit more bad ass than other bike manufacturers? It’s the Kawasaki green, but more than that, it’s where and why that lime green started to be sprayed on their bikes. In 1969 at Daytona Raceway, there was a superstition that was taken very seriously; you don’t race green bikes. So, …
