Rupp Industries was based in Mansfield, Ohio, and for nearly 20 years they were able to compete with Honda and other Japanese manufacturers for a share of the lucrative mini bike market. Their top-of-the-line competition bike was the Black Widow, which was based on the Roadster/2. This example is also based on the Roadster, because it’s unfortunately only a replica.
Restored – 1975 Honda Gold Wing GL1000 K0
I’m still working on my review of the newest entry into the Honda Gold Wing family, but here’s the opposite end of the spectrum – the first year of the legendary touring line. This example was given a “ground up restoration” and it looks excellent.
Buford – 1975 Honda Gold Wing GL1000 K0 Custom
I’m working on my review of the 2018 Honda Gold Wing, which is why I had to feature this crazy custom from the first year of Wing production. Named “Buford”, this interesting Gold Wing custom has nearly covered 500,000 miles…and it’s covered by 10 square feet of Icelandic goat fur. Now that’s a sentence I never thought I’d type out …
Little French Tracker – 2014 Mash Seventy Five 125cc
Mash Motorcycles is one of those manufacturers you’ve probably never heard of before. First founded in 2014, the low-volume boutique manufacturer offers good looking inexpensive motorcycles powered by small-displacement (50cc, 125cc, 250cc, and 400cc) Chinese crate engines. Think Cleveland CycleWerks, but French. In its handful of years since being established, Mash has released a surprisingly expansive lineup including factory ADV …
Austrian Two-Stroke – 1990 KTM 250 MX
In the 1990’s, KTM’s MX machines were routinely winning magazine shootouts, and though they weren’t without flaws the Austrian brappers were thought of as solid bikes. The dawn of the ’90’s would see the “Ready To Race” brand release a highly updated version of its quarter-liter MXer. The 1990 KTM 250 MX boasted ample smooth and tractable low-to-mid range power, …
1 of 500 – 1982 Puch Magnum MkII Limited
Puch ended their venerable Magnum line of mopeds with a limited production run of 500 – these were called the LTD or Limited. It was basically a Magnum MKII with special cosmetics and a numbered plaque – this example is #152.
Street Scrambler Elsinore Tribute – 1985 Honda VF500 Custom
What we have here is an ’85 Honda VF500 V30 Magna-based, 500 Interceptor-powered Street Scrambler build. This example – which was built as a 1973 Honda CR250 Elsinore tribute – very much looks the part of your typical scrambler while boasting performance closer to that of a mid-’80’s sport bike. The V4-powered sled has received a lot of work and …
2013 BikeEXIF Bike of the Year – 1980 Honda CB750F
1-17-18 Update: 6 months later, Tim H notes that this bike has moved to Orlando and it’s been discounted to $12,900. You can find it here on Cafe Racer For Sale. Richmond, VA-based Classified Moto began its journey back in 2011 when cofounder John Ryland was laid off from his advertising gig he’d been working for more than a decade. …
Works Replica – Kawasaki KR250-A
Kawasaki’s KR250 was a dominating race bike that won 4 consecutive world championships starting in 1978, earning its place in history (and a spot at the Barber Museum). The most notable feature was the “tandem twin” motor – a disc valve, twin crank, rotary valve, water-cooled two-stroke design which allows for a narrow motor and therefore a slimmer motorcycle with …
Original Sandcast – 1969 Honda CB750
Post Listing Update: This CB750 was pulled off of eBay due to “an error in the listing.” Before Honda realized what a hit they had with the CB750, they used cheaper sandcast molds for the first 7,414 engines. These early ‘sandcast’ bikes have become quite collectible, and the lower the production number, the better. Based on the VIN (and per …
Restored – 1971 Kawasaki G3SS
On one hand, I’ve never seen a G3SS this nice. On the other hand, I’ve never seen a G3SS with a $3,000 asking price, either. Is it worth it? You tell me.
1966 BSA A65S Spitfire Special MK2
Post Sale Update: This time, it sold! The price was $7,000 after 33 bids on eBay. 1-15-18 Update: This Spitfire is back up for sale and bidding is higher than it settled at last time. Now it’s up to $5,259 with the reserve not yet met here on eBay. Post Listing Update: This Spitfire did not meet reserve despite 24 …
Model 73 – 1973 Bultaco Tiron 100
Post Listing Update: This Tiron did not get any interest at the asking price of $2,000. Bultacos are generally hard to find as it is, but the Tiron is truly a rarity. Basically a tiny version of the Sherpa, the Tiron is a trials bike with ergonomics best suited for younger riders and a 100cc engine.
Harley Trunk – 1939 GouldCar
Post Listing Update: This GouldCar did not meet reserve with 14 bids up to $1,025. James Goulding founded the Goulding Sidecar Manufacturing Company in Australia but he debuted his offerings in the US in the year 1920 with a 12,000-mile journey around America with one of his sidecars attached to a 1917 Harley-Davidson Model J. He made a lot of …
Rare Non-Runner – 1956/7 Triumph Fips
We’ve accumulated quite a collection of bikes for sale over the years, so it’s always a pleasant surprise when I get to share something that I’ve never posted about before. Today’s example of such a feat is brought to you by reader Bob K, who sent me a link to a Triumph Fips. This is from the German Triumph, which …
