Post Listing Update: This Interceptor was pulled off of eBay, final sale price unknown.

In the early 70s, an aspiring Floyd Clymer (who owned the name of Indian Motorcycles at the time) thought that the 736cc engine from the Mark II Royal Enfield Interceptor was an absolute jewel, and he ordered 200 to use in an hybrid sport-tourer to be created as Indians. Unfortunately, Clymer passed away after only approximately 15 were created, leaving a surplus of engines that the Rickman brothers saw as an opportunity. Fast forward a couple of months, and you get the Rickman Enfield Interceptor, an all British sportbike featuring the excellent engine with the racing frame that Rickman was known for. Just 136 were produced, meaning they’re quite hard to find, and very valuable. This one’s up for sale with no reserve!

The result of the RE-Rickman partnership was an absolute beauty, with a nickel-plated chromoly frame, front and rear disc brakes, Ceriani forks, and Smith instruments, resulting in a package that weighed 365 pounds and could comfortably cruise at 90 mph all day.

This example (VIN: R1112) is pitched as a bike you can enjoy as is or refurbish to a higher standard – it’s actually part of the fleet over at Retro Tours! It was recently featured in the July/August issue of Motorcycle Classics by none other than Alan Cathcart.

It “was found back in 2005 and subsequently brought back to life by Retro Tours with the intent to experience and ride. Largely, a stock Interceptor except where parts could not be found and had to be sourced elsewhere or machined, much work and investment has been made to bring this piece of history back to life. The Interceptor runs and rides as it should, brakes, shift and handles well. All electrics work properly, including the added turn signals. Mileage indicated on the odometer states 12,187, however it’s accuracy cannot be documented. The fork seals tend to leak, as does the engine, and the engine burns some oil. Still, the bike is quite ride-able as is, and thrilling to ride.
