Possibly Street Legal – 1972 Harley-Davidson XR750

Depending on your state of residence, this XR750 could make you the coolest commuter around! Equipped with lights (but not much else), this example of Harley history is street legal in a few states even though it lacks a speedometer, turn signals, any sort of subtlety, etc.

Harley-Davidson XR750 - Right Side

Just 200 examples of the XR750 were created, and this one (VIN: 1C10197H2) has a claimed history of being ridden by Cal Rayborn, Mert Lawwill, and Scott Brelsford, but I see no proof or evidence of those claims so for now I’d just ignore that. The listing is also a bit vague as the seller says those riders rode the engine from this bike, implying the engine spent time in a different frame in the past? More details for a listing like this would be greatly appreciated, though the photos show a Supertrapp exhaust, Ohlins shocks, and a Mecum license plate – the latter shows that this bike sold for $25,000 (I don’t believe this includes auction fees but I’m not 100% sure) at this year’s Mecum auction in Vegas, and the company says it was converted to a street tracker by Jim Kelly Racing. In the process it got an alternator and a kick starter, and the bike has been featured in Easy Rider and Barnett Motorcycle. The seller should have included those details in his/her listing but I guess they didn’t want you to see that they’re not asking for more than the auction sale price.
