Post Sale Update: This Metralla sold for a BIN of $6,500 in Middletown, Ohio on eBay.

As the seller put it, “if you are seeking a perfect restored Metralla – this probably isn’t for you. If you are looking for a far better than average Metralla that has the bones to cosmetically move it up the ladder – read on.”

When it was released, the Metralla Mk2 was the fastest two-stroke motorcycle you could buy. It held that title for a short time – you should check out Mat Oxley’s book Stealing Speed to learn why two-stroke development was at a fever pitch during this decade – but even as other companies built faster bikes, the Metralla was still fantastically impressive. They were able to put down 32 horsepower at a time when plenty of cars made less.

This example (VIN: B2301865) is a project that has spent the last 20+ years in climate controlled storage, though the seller states that it “started on the fourth kick after 12 months of storage, sounds finde, and goes through the gears with no problems observed.” The lights work but the horn and oil pump are not present. It’s been on display for years but it doesn’t look like it would take much to make it a runner, as long as you don’t mind the cosmetic issues.
