Restored or Original – Honda SS125A

In Japan, Small Displacement, Sport by AbhiLeave a Comment

The predecessor to the CB125, Honda’s SS125A was the ‘Super Sport’ option in a series of rare quarter-liter slopers that also included the CL125 (scrambler), CD125 (touring), and a Japan-only CS125. They are not easy to find nowadays, which makes it all the more surprising that I’ve got two for you to peruse. One’s been restored and the other…hasn’t.

The SS125 was released in 1967 and was out of the market by 1970. Max output was 13 horsepower at 10,500 rpm, and the bike weighed just 216 pounds. Let’s first take a look at the original survivor (though it does have a new top end). The seller says the exhaust is in great shape, it’s got new tires, and it’s ready to go. Find it for sale in Bellwood, Nebraska for $2,200 here on Craigslist.

Second, the restored example. Though it’s been restored, the seller states all the parts are original (except for the luggage rack). I think he means OEM Honda as opposed to ‘original.’ The bike was taken down to the frame, which was sandblasted and repainted. There are plenty of new parts – bearings, seals, battery tires, tubes, rims, spokes, brakes, clutch…you get the idea. The carb was rebuilt and this bike is said to run very well. Find it outside of Manchester, New Hampshire here on Craigslist for what I think is the excellent price of $1,500.
