Post Sale Update: this 999S sold for $11,100 after 37 bids on eBay in Independence, Oregon.
This is an oddball – it was at a Ducati dealership that had a fire on the other end of the building. Due to “smoke damage”, this bike was totaled. But the insurance company says in a letter that it only need a cleaning to be road worthy, so it’s got a salvage title but just 1 mile on the odometer.
The S model boasted an extra 3.1 ponies (138-141.1) over the base model in addition to sporting full-carbon bodywork, Öhlins fork, Marelli fuel injection, and Brembo brakes.
This example (VIN: ZDM1UB5V6B016281) is said to be in “mint condition” with “no issues.” It has a new battery and I’d love to know if the next owner keeps it as a 1-mile display bike or decides to ride it. Either way, it’s got an interesting history. The seller includes a letter from 12/1/2006 from the insurance company stating that it “sustained smoke damage and required no parts or repairs in order to be road worthy – only clean-up.”
