The seller of this bike makes quite a claim: “Beat Kramer’s for 1/4 the price!” That obviously caught my attention as a Kramer owner, and while I don’t know how accurate his statement is, I will say that this is an impressive hybrid which combines two famous Yamahas – a TZ250 frame with a Raptor ATZ 660 engine (which has been bored out to 700cc) to make a fascinating Sound of Singles (SoS) racebike!
Per the seller, this was built 20-25 years ago and was an “AHRMA singles champ,” though it’s unclear if that’s over one race, a regional championship, or a national championship.
There’s some great features to this – twin FCR carbs, a custom dry sump, and an electric starter! The seller guesses that it weighs 250-275 pounds (a Kramer weighs 285) and the sale includes some spares: “extra used motor, new extra crank, extra big bore piston kit, Carillo rods, enough motor spares to race from now on.” A Kramer will definitely be easier to maintain considering all the custom work in this bike, but it’s very cool!
