Indian produced 3 military Scout models during WWII. The 641, the 741 and the 841. The 641 and 741 used the standard 30.5 CID (500 CC) Indian V twin, the 841 turned the motor 90 degrees and fitted a shaft drive. Though they sold over 40,000 units to various militaries a good many left over units were sold to civilians following the war.

The Indian Scout 741 used a 500CC (30.5 CID) air cooled side valve V-twin motor that made 15 HP through a 3 speed transmission on a 450 LBS motorcycle to produce a top speed of 60 MPH. Military models had mudguards instead of fenders and used longer front forks to raise the clearance to over 5 inches.

This particular 741 Scout (VIN # CDA34168) is in Yucaipa, California and is listed as a good running original. As pictured, it is not fully military or fully civilian. It has lots of added parts and has been painted and liveried by the owner. The bike is currently priced at $5,800 with reserve not met

A note on WWII titles: A great number of states titled all ‘surplus’ sales as a single year. IE: in Washington state the vehicle is titled as a 1942 no matter when it was made. War titles are tricky if you need a specific year. I suspect this 741 may have been made as late as 1944.
