One of the most famous motorcycles of all time, the Vincent Black Shadow was built in response to riders wanting a faster version of the Rapide.
In a time when cars were putting around at 45 miles per hour, a Black Shadow could comfortably cruise at twice that or hit a top speed of over 120 miles per hour thanks to the 55 horsepower 998cc V-Twin engine. Black Shadows were handmade, and less than 1,700 were built in total. In the words of Hunter S. Thompson, “If you rode the Black Shadow at top speed for any length of time, you would almost certainly die.”
This example (VIN: RC11294B/C) is currently registered and being ridden on the road. The sale includes the Vincent works order form, engine check sheet, cycle check sheet, road test report, and a note stating the bike was sold to Vincent’s USA distributor, Indian Sales Corporation. The Smith’s speedo shows 3,204 miles.
