Long before MV Agusta began building the super bikes that make me think of writing bad checks or mortgaging my house they built high grade small motorcycles. Lots of them for the post war Italian market. In the late 1940s they decided to build a four stroke motor and to go racing. The result was a world championship in the 125 CC class in 1952. Racing became endemic to their brand and in the 1950s alone they won 19 Manufacturer’s World Championships and 32 National Titles.
The 1954 MV Agusta TR (Turimso Rapido) 125 used a 123.6 CC air cooled four stroke single cylinder motor that made 6.5 HP and pushed it through a 4 speed transmission for a top speed of 60 MPH. A double cradle tubular frame (pressed swingarm) with hydraulic suspension on both ends made the TR very rideable. Weight of 224 LBS with a large fuel tank and good economy made rides of 300 plus miles on a single tank of fuel possible.
