1959 Ducati 200 Turismo

At the request of their US importer (Berliner), Ducati bumped displacement of the and Super Sport models from 175cc to 200cc – really 204cc, but who’s counting? Berliner sold the model as the Americano but the equivalent in Europe had sleeker styling and a much more international name: the Turismo.

The 203.8cc (who’s really counting now?) four-stroke OHC motor pushed 18 horsepower through a 4-speed transmission for a claimed top speed just north of 80 miles per hour. In this “Fave Rave” piece in Cycle World (June 1998), Phil Schilling discusses his desire for a 200 Super Sport but why he ended up buying an Americano when prompted with the question, “what’s your favorite bike?”

This example has 9,149 miles and it’s been restored – the seller only says that it’s been on static display but it’s unclear how long that’s been. The asking price is on the high side and it seems like they’re just fishing for questions/offers but this bike is so lovely that I just felt like I had to share it so you can click on the link and stare at some more photos.
