Described in Yamaha’s marketing materials as a “Cross Country Sport”, the YM-1 was an evolution of the YDS-3 and it was the top of the line Yamaha sportbike of the time.
At the time, the 305cc 2-stroke twin was “the biggest displacement 2-stroke of its kind in the country” and it featured Yamaha’s famed Autolube oil injection system. The motor produced 26 horsepower, enough for a top speed around 100 miles per hour.
This example has 9,653 miles and the seller states that “it had a partial restoration by a previous owner a few years ago with new paint, cables, and tires. I recently installed a new seat cover and foam. It has new OEM clutch plates and a Motobatt AGM battery with charging pigtail.” During the restoration, the original exhaust pipes were swapped out with the higher ones from a Yamaha Big Bear Scrambler. It’s offered with a Virginia title in the seller’s name.
