1974 Penton Cafe MX

In America, Off-Road by AbhiLeave a Comment

In 1974, Penton took their Mud Lark from two years prior and modified to create the “Cafe MX” – a machine they advertised as being “dual purpose.”

As noted by Penton USA, the Cafe MX got lighting, Hi-Point knobby tires, a Sachs 152cc motor, and red/white tank decals that say “Cafe Motocross.”

The seller of this example (VIN: W507ST) says that his father bought it out of California years ago from someone who bought it new from a Penton dealership in Pennsyvlania. “The frame had been repainted at some point prior to us purchasing the bike but other than that it appears to be a very original bike. Has a Sachs 125cc 5A engine with cast iron top end that is on the standard 54mm bore. It starts easily and runs/shifts great. Still has what looks to be the original Hi Point knobby tires which are still in good shape. John Penton’s autograph is on the gas tank although it’s faded a bit over the years.”
