Post Sale Update: This Z1-R sold for $13,600 after 14 bids on eBay in Springfield, Oregon.

The Z1-R is becoming one of the most collectible motorcycles to come out of Japan in the late 70s and early 80s. Most people associate the model with a lovely shade of light blue, so let’s go with one of the less common black models (the 1980 color) today.

Officially, the model was introduced in 1978 and any ’79s were leftover models. Kawasaki revised a few things for ’80 – the ditched the 4-into-1 exhaust and replaced it with a 4-into-2, and they also ditched the silver-blue paint. Other upgrades included a stiffer chassis, 19″ front wheel, larger gas tank (4.4 gallons vs 3.4), and more comfortable seat.

This example (VIN: KZT00D018597) has 20,319 miles and it’s original except for three modifications – aftermarket ignition switch, solid state secondary ignition, and the rear blinkers, which were moved to accommodate hard luggage in the past. “The only real flaw with the bike is on the fuel tank finish, front RH side.” The sale includes a NOS fuel tank to make up for that.
