The Suzuki RG250 Gamma was introduced in 1983 as the first mass-produced motorcycle with a 100% aluminium box section chassis. This, combined with the light weight of <300 pounds, anti-dive forks, and "Full Floater" rear suspension, is why it is considered by some to be the first street-legal race replica. Things got even better in 1986 when Suzuki rolled out two upgrades – Automatic Exhaust Control (AEC), and a gorgeous Walter Wolf livery which paid tribute to the race team.
A review in Cycle magazine bemoaned that fact, as they loved what it represented: “Sure, the Gamma will work as a Saturday-cruise-to-the-beach special, and be wasted doing so. In the month we’ve spent with the RG, it’s happier threatening life, limb, and license. No, it’s not unsafe; quite to the contrary, it’ll get you out of trouble as fast as you get yourself into it. Some motorcycles are fun to ride fast, others – better yet – are willing accomplices to misbehavior, and still others – best of all – are almost bonafide perpetrators themselves.”
This example (VIN: GJ21B120214) has roughly 4,300 miles and it’s been recently imported. The seller notes some service work: “Recent carburetor gaskets, jets (nos parts), transmission oil (Mobile 1 synthetic), battery, and rear tire replacement (Bridgestone). 2 cracks in the fairing please see pictures. Areas that need attention: Front tire replacement and front forks seals (nos seals and dust seals will be provided).” It’s already got a US title (in Texas) so you’re good to transfer it to any state but California. It should be noted that these can be easily cloned and I’ve never found an official list of VINs for the 250s. Still, it does look original and it’s got the WW gauge faces, which is a good sign.
