1989 Suzuki GSX-R250R

Let’s take a look at another rare Suzuki – this time a 250cc sportbike that was never officially sold in the US!

You can buy a new “GSX250R” at your local Suzuki dealership but it’s a shadow of what the model used to be – the new one is a parallel twin that makes about 25 horsepower (Suzuki doesn’t even share the output on their site, but they’ll tell you it gets 73.6 miles per gallon). The original was an inline four screamer (17,000 rpm redline!) that was restricted to 45 horsepower due to Japanese licensing restrictions. The second generation (GJ73A) was even nicer – the hp was still limited but it got an aluminum frame, stronger suspension, wider front wheel, larger brakes, Slingshot downdraft carbs, more aggressive ergonomics, and different styling. These were only offered in 1989 and 1990 and only in Japan, making them quite rare to see here in the US.

This example (VIN: GJ73A106402) shows 6,817 kilometers (4,235 miles) on the odometer, the seller got it six months ago with the intent of cleaning it up mechanically and cosmetically. Now it’s someone else’s chance to enjoy the bike for its intended purpose and ride it!
