Post Sale Update: This Fireblade sold for $8,800 after 23 bids on eBay.

The first generation of the Honda CBR900RR, affectionately known as the Fireblade, was a revolution in the large displacement sport bike market. Despite a 50% larger engine, this bike weighed just 4 pounds more than the CBR600F2. Just as important, this bike was a whopping 76 pounds lighter than its lightest competition!

Dynamically, this is an excellent bike with incredible reliability. As Motorcycle News puts it, the Fireblade was “the motorcycle that changed how sports motorcycles were built.” The 893cc motor produced 122 horsepower and 65 pound-feet of torque, enough for a top speed just over 160 miles per hour. The designer (Tadao Baba) wanted conventional forks because they weighed less, so his compromise was to build forks that looked inverted. It was originally going to be called Lightning but “Fireblade” came about due to an incorrect translation. Fireblade is cooler, anyway.

This example (VIN: JH2SC2809PM100897) has 16,962 miles and it’s crossed the Pacific Ocean twice. It was apparently exported to Japan from the US and the seller imported it back last year. It’s claimed to be in almost mint condition with a few scratches in the “red decal on the left side gas tank”. The fairings are OEM though the white in the lowers has been repainted and the lower/mid fairings and fuel tank have been given another clear coat. The original turn signals and mirrors are included but the bike has new OEM units as well as new OEM bar ends and grips. Included with the sale is a Vance & Hines slipon. The bike was just serviced with “new fluids, new fuel filter, new battery and new Bridgestone Battlax tires” and the seller says that it runs like new.
