Between 2010 and 2014, the AMA and Vance & Hines came together to create a spec series of racing with Harley’s XR1200. V&H also offered a $3,500 kit for folks that wanted to turn their XR1200 street bikes into something resembling the racer – and this special example (which has just 250 miles) was originally built with that kit for none other than Terry Vance himself!

The racing was quite interesting to watch – here’s a little highlight reel from the 2011 season if you’re curious:

Per the seller, the $3,500 kit included a “carbon fiber tailsection and front fender, fiberglass bellypad with kickstand cutout, Galfer front rotors, Performance Machine Black Assault Race wheels front and rear, Progressive Suspension 970 rear shocks, Gilles / V&H racing mid controls, Vance & Hines Widow Stainless Steel 2-1-2 exhaust, a marine quality digital replacement V&H dash, and a one of a kind Carbon VO2 Air Intake.” Other articles also mention a Fuelpak fuel management system and some other minor bits well.

“This particular XR1200, with just 250 original miles, was customized for Terry Vance with a modified Vance & Hines XR1200 race kit, while keeping the bike street legal with headlights and turn signals. This bike was never raced, but did commute to and from Vance & Hines a few times on the streets of Orange County.”

This bike-uriousity brought to you by Jay B! When he told me about it on the phone, I said that it might be “the only Harley I’d want to own myself.”
