Post Listing Update: This custom Triumph did not meet reserve with 14 bids up to $6,450. The builder of this bike wanted to create a ‘custom desert racer that held true to its roots and didn’t appear very custom at all.’ How do you think he did?
Museum Quality – 1976 Honda CB400F Super Sport
Post-Sale Update: This CB400F sold for $6,400 with 21 bids on eBay. Honda’s CB400F is not a rare bike, but seeing one in this condition isn’t a common experience any more. That’s probably why the bidding is already up to $5,600 with two days left on the auction…
Ketchup and Mustard – 1990 BMW K1
Post-Sale Update: This K1 sold for $3,548 after 27 bids on eBay. This bike gives me pause – I really enjoy the 80s looks, but I’m pretty sure the paint job just gave me a headache as I looked through the photos.
H Garage Build – 1982 Honda FT500 Custom
Post-Listing Update: This Ascot custom did not get any action at the BIN of $14,500. I recently featured a Ascot custom, and frankly I thought I wouldn’t see another one for at least several months. This one’s going to the Handbuilt Show – what do you think of it?
Ambitious Project – Over 35 Vintage Bikes in Pieces
Post-Listing Update: This collection of bikes in pieces was pulled off of eBay, final sale price unknown. Someone in Vegas is divesting “his personal favorites from over 40 years in the business,” and there’s some very interesting options among over 35 old street and dirt bikes. Here’s your chance to start a classic motorcycle shop, or slowly lose your mind …
Barn Find – 1971 BSA B25SS Gold Star
Though some purists scoffed at it, BSA brought back the Gold Star name for the 250 and 500 cc street scramblers. Here’s an example of the former (the B25SS), which was powered by a unit construction 250cc four stroke that dated back to 1958. In 1971, BSA introduced the oil-in-frame design but the 250s were done the next year and …
1 of 75 – 1966 Moto Guzzi Stornello ISD Trial
Post-Sale Update: After being relisted, this Stornello ISD Trial sold for $4,104.54 on eBay. The Moto Guzzi Stornello (Italian for starling) was one of the last four-stroke singles that Guzzi built. For one year only, they produced an “ISD Trial” model, which was a replica of Guzzi’s 1963 ISDT bike. Just 75 examples were produced, and all were sent to …
Oxymoron – 2010 KTM 990 SMT
The idea of touring on a supermoto bike doesn’t make much sense to me, but KTM somehow made it work with their SMT model – a motorcycle that Visordown called “the most sensible KTM in ages.” Here’s a pretty example of an uncommon bike that gets bonus points in my book because the seller has created an excellent example of …
M-Star – 1986 Maico 500 SuperCross
Post Listing Update: This Maico did not meet reserve with 13 bids up to $2,380. After Maico’s disastrous results with the Corte & Cosso monoshock designs of their 1982 bikes, they quickly slid down the path to bankruptcy. The first of many unsuccessful attempts to bring Maico back to life was “M-Star”, and they offered 250 and 500 models that …
1997 MZ Skorpion Sport Cup
The MZ Skorpion was the result of an international partnership between a British design firm (Seymourpowell), an East German manufacturer (MZ), and a Japanese engine (Yamaha). Weighing just 380 pounds and packing 48 horsepower, this is a great option if you’re looking for a rare ~600cc sportbike – and this example is even better as it is one of the …
In Moscow – 2005 MV Agusta F4 1000 Mamba
Because I live in LA, the nickname of Mamba annoyingly makes me think of Kobe Bryant (go Celtics!) Similarly low on my personal list is the Mamba edition of the MV Agusta F4. I think it looks a bit tacky, but a.) it’s rare and I wanted to show it to you and b.) looks are subjective, so i hope …
Slightly Modded – 1973 Honda CB450
At first glance, this CB450 looks relatively stock, but it has an interesting amount of modifications that come together in a nice package.
1 of 50 – 2007 Buell XBRR
A factory-built, $30,995 racebike, the Buell XBRR was Erik Buell’s effort at taking care of privateer racers, and it was specifically designed to compete in the AMA Formula Xtreme class. This might surprise you as FX was normally for modified 600cc bikes, and the XBRR uses a 1339cc Thunderstorm V-Twin. But considering it was the first year of competition with …
Unexpected Custom – 1980 Yamaha XT500
View Post216 Miles, Grey Market – 1996 Honda CBR400RR
It’s not common to see the “Babyblade” for sale in the states, but this makes the second one we’ve got in a week, and the low mileage is impressive. The nickname was obviously given as it’s a smaller (400cc) version of the Fireblade, but it was a JDM-only motorcycle for the ~15 years it was produced.
