When you’re a world champion and you want to sho When you’re a world champion and you want to show off your stuff, why not create a museum that includes some memorabilia from your buddies, your heroes, and even a rival or two? Jorge Lorenzo tried it for himself – the #99 he wore in MotoGP inspired the name. ⠀
⠀
Vy and I encountered this museum while we were on a 2-up vacation through the Iberian Peninsula. Near the end of our trip, we stopped in the capital of Andorra and I was surprised to discover Jorge’s museum right across the street from our hotel. We had to check it out, right?⠀
⠀
1.) The entrance is on the first floor, where you’ll find a restaurant and bar. Ask to go to the museum and you’ll have to pay a small fee and then take some stairs to the second floor. ⠀
⠀
2.) The exhibit starts with some of Lorenzo’s MotoGP idols with basic stats and their riding suits.⠀
⠀
3.) All hail King Kenny. I had the chance to speak with him once for about 30 seconds – he spent the whole time telling me how much he liked Indian food.⠀
⠀
4.) Freddie Spencer’s iconic Arai.⠀
⠀
5.) It’s not a large building, but a dedicated MotoGP fan could easily spend 30-60 minutes here poring through all the details – this one photo is about a third of what’s on offer.⠀
⠀
6.) Jorge’s 2015 championship-winning bike was on display. A label on the glass states that this bike made 256 horsepower and weighed just 348 pounds.⠀
⠀
7.) He’s also got plenty of awards for winning Pole Position at individual races. It’s not clear from the angle, but each case is a mini-helmet.⠀
⠀
8. and 9.) One of my favorite sections was the different gear that Jorge has won over the years, especially because I’m a sucker for helmet designs.⠀
⠀
10.) My personal favorite was the “Astronaut”. Note how it says “GANA” in the NASA font – that’s Spanish for the verb “win.”⠀
⠀
Unfortunately, Jorge's museum closed in early 2019. But I hope you enjoyed this little photo gallery - link in bio for more from his ex-museum!⠀

The @aprilia_americas Tuono 660 is finally here! ⠀
⠀
Can't say I'm in love with the styling as much as I was with the RS660 (and why did they get rid of Lava Red?!), but otherwise it looks like all the other stuff I love about the RS remains with the bonus of comfier ergos with the handlebar instead of clipons and a shorter final drive.⠀
⠀
Wonder how difficult it would be to swap the Tuono bars/triple tree onto a Lava Red RS660...⠀

@bmwmotorrad's first production motorcycle (or veh @bmwmotorrad's first production motorcycle (or vehicle, for that matter) was the 1923 R32. Over the next three years, the Germans would go on to make 3,090 examples. How many are left today? Experts suggest 40, but no one really knows for sure. What is certain is how many Peter Nettesheim owns – eight, including #22 off the assembly line. Why is that significant? Because 1-21 don’t exist anymore.⠀
⠀
That’s right – Peter owns the oldest BMW in existence.⠀
⠀
He also happens to have an example of every single model from 1923 through 1970, plus a few "newer" ones, some cars, and an incredible taste for period tools and collectibles that perfectly match the bikes on display. Hell, there's even a "1946" BMW - the cookware in photo #3 as BMW wasn't allowed to make motorcycles that year!⠀
⠀
Swipe through for some highlights, then hit the link in bio for the full story on this incredible private collection of BMW's.⠀

Thanks to @mvagustausa for giving me some quality Thanks to @mvagustausa for giving me some quality time with the Turismo Veloce 800 Lusso. I've wanted to ride it for years (it was one of my top choices for the 50 hour coast to coast ride) and it was great to finally get the chance! ⠀
⠀
Review coming soon, but I had to get the requisite wheelie photo this weekend. Nathan and I were pulled over on the side of the road trying to figure out framing for this shot, and someone in a Corvette stopped to check in on us. I started to give a thumbs up before I saw who the driver was.⠀
⠀
Turns out it was Jay Leno, but I had my helmet on so he didn't recognize me and took off once I gave him the all clear. I emailed him afterwards and he responded with the usual balance of humor and some much appreciated well wishes for @iconicmotorbikes...(swipe left).

Every once in a while, I have the pleasure of shar Every once in a while, I have the pleasure of sharing a motorcycle for sale that raced in MotoGP, the top tier of street racing. But so far, they’ve always been been CRT (Claiming Rule Team) bikes, a weird minor league of sorts that was established in 2011. Typically when the factory bikes sell, it’s done privately through strong connections. But here’s an incredibly rare opportunity where an ex-MotoGP bike is being offered up to the public through eBay. 2002 brought out several dramatic changes in the highest level of GP racing – the premier class was renamed to MotoGP and they introduced new regulations which allowed 990cc four-stroke bikes to race alongside the 500cc two-strokes of the previous year. That motivated Ducati to join the following year, and they brought out the GP3 with Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss. According to the seller, this is the latter’s bike, and it’s “ready to parade” thanks to a “complete overhaul.”⠀
⠀
Troy ended up finishing sixth in the MotoGP championship that year. When combined with Loris’ fourth place finish, Ducati finished second overall in the manufacturers championship that year. This is the beginning of Ducati’s history in modern GP racing, and it’s said to be Troy’s #1 bike. It’s pretty much as good as it gets for a Ducati collector – good enough that I’m willing to break my rule about not featuring bikes without asking prices. The seller (a dealership in Italy) lists an asking price of $999,999 but they openly admit in the listing description that “of course it’s not the price listed” and they want to privately negotiate with potential buyers. I hate featuring bikes without a specific asking price, but something like this deserves an exception. Good luck!⠀

Built by the Bobcat company of Wheeling, Illinois, Built by the Bobcat company of Wheeling, Illinois, this interesting scooter was designed to let people “play more golf, better golf, more relaxing golf.” Amusingly, in a period ad the mileage wasn’t referred to in mpg, but rather “72 holes per gallon.”⠀
⠀
It utilized a 4 hp four-stroke engine with an automatic clutch and pull start/electric start variants. The complete package weighs 165 pounds and has a center stand that automatically deploys when the rider gets off.⠀
⠀
The seller describes riding it as “interesting and not very difficult, once you ride it for a few minutes. Press the starter button on the side of the scooter and it comes to life. After a short warm up, you sit down on the scooter to retract the “landing gear” type center stand, which retracts when the rider sits on the scooter. Balance the bike while lifting one leg off of the ground, place it on the foot pedal, and depress it to begin moving. Brake is on the right side of the handlebar.”⠀
⠀
The sale includes a large reprint of a period advertisement with Bob Hope in Golf Digest, and he believes that the scooter for sale is the same one from the advertisement. Link in bio to find it on eBay in Chicago, Illinois!
Some personal favorites from a visit to Museo de l Some personal favorites from a visit to Museo de la Moto in Andorra!⠀
⠀
1. 1909 Anzani. This was built by Alessandro Ambrogio Anzani as a pace bike for bicycle racers in velodromes and it features a 4-stroke V-Twin.⠀
2. 1949 Derny Cyclotandem, which uses a 98cc Zurcher 2-stroke engine. All Dernys of the time (whether for track or street) shared the design cue of a fuel tank underneath the handlebars.⠀
3. 1957 Motobecane Trials Replica with a 200cc engine. ⠀
4. Left: 1969 Solo, one of the first modern electric two-wheelers. It was designed to fold-up for pilots who wanted easy transportation once they arrived at a destination in their light aircraft. Right: 1977 Guai Bailen, one of the few motorcycles to be built in Andorra itself. ⠀
5. Honda MTX ski bike. The MT was sold in Europe and South Africa in 50cc, 80cc, 125cc, and 200cc versions, all of which were two-strokes. I believe this is a MTX200, though the museum did not have information on why it had been converted.⠀
6. OSSA Yankee 500 SS. After John Taylor’s American company Yankee went out of business in the 70s, OSSA was stuck with a newly-designed engine that no longer had a home. So OSSA built a roadster with Brembo brakes and plenty of orange/yellow touches.⠀
7. A custom BMW R90S, but there wasn't any information about it.⠀
8. Böhmerland was a Czechoslovakian firm that built bikes between ’24 and ’39. All of their bikes were of one ‘model’, but with wheelbase options from a 2 seat “Sport” model to the 4 seater “Lang Touren” (Long Touring). This is the 3 seater “Touren”. The 16 hp, 600cc single was used for all wheelbase lengths – this Touren was 8 feet long but the Lang Touren was 10.5, making it one of the longest motorcycles ever. Note the leading link forks, rear fuel tanks, and the wonderful design of the aluminum wheels.⠀
9. JJ Cobas 250. JJ Cobas was the brainchild of Antonio Cobas and Jacinto Moriana – the former was credited with developing the modern aluminum frame that would go on to dominate road bikes for years.⠀
10. In the parking lot was the R1250RS loaner we had from @bmwmotorradusa, along with a beautiful view of the Andorran valley we would be heading to next!⠀

The ‘steering was originally via cable but it turns out braided cables stretch so steering is now via scissor link.’ The seller originally built the motor with fuel injection but that proved “impractical” so he converted it to carbs. It’s also got 8″ wheels from a Honda Z50 with snowblower tires, as well as billet aluminum hubs with Avid BB7 mountain bicycle disc brakes.⠀
