The Cagiva Elefant is an interesting odd-ball – an Italian dual-sport with the heart of a Ducati. Available with a 900cc or 650cc engine, this is definitely the most unique option compared to the KLR, DRZ, and XL/XR options available from Japan. The seller of this example is ensuring that it will sell as he’s going to knock off $100/day from the asking price until it’s gone.
The V-Twin engine is shared with the Alazzurra 650, so the $4,632 MSRP got you 49 horsepower to lug around 454 pounds, enough for a top speed of 104 miles per hour. From what I hear, sourcing parts for this can be a nightmare so it’s best to start with a solid example. Though the engine is a Ducati unit, Cagiva had to redesign and rotate the head to make room for the single Ohlins rear shock. This means that some parts are unique to just this bike, which wasn’t exactly a best seller. The rear master cylinders are NLA, as are all brake hoses and cables, air boots between the frame and carbs, and other parts. This is definitely a bike for patient types.
The seller of this example has a style that makes his listing enjoyable to read. He notes that the bike starts/runs/rides/stops but it will need some TLC. As he says:
Ups:
-Clean carbs
-Brand new battery
-Brand new Ducati clutch plates
-Comes with the mf OG shop rag
-Has old registration
-Comes with manuals and some spare parts
Downs:
-Needs to be gone through a little (I’d replace fluids, go through basic tune-up stuff like timing/valves, leaks a little gas here and there, could probably use a carb balancing)
-The rear blinkers gave up a long time ago. I don’t know what’s up with that.
As I noted above – he’s starting the price at $3k but he’s lowering that number by $100 every day until it gets bought. Find this Elefant for sale in Providence, Rhode Island for $3,000 (or less) here on Facebook Marketplace.
