Helping Bikers – Maria Esther

In Blog by AbhiLeave a Comment

As some of you know, I’m currently in grad school on the side. In a recent class, I had a co-founder of Not Impossible Labs (check out that ink if you’re really into 3D printing or helping people) as a guest lecturer, and he ended his talk with a suggestion that we all find a way to help others, even if in a small way. I liked it, and I wondered how I could do something small to help as Bike-urious. Here’s my first attempt, but it will evolve over time.

The thing that brings us all together here is a passion for motorcycles. I think it’d be great to help out other motorcyclists, particularly those who rely on bikes to bring in income. An easy way to do that is through Kiva, a non-profit organization that enables people like you and me to get into the world of microlending as made popular by Grameen Bank.

So, let’s give it whirl. Meet Maria Esther, a 35 year-old wife and mother who lives in the Northern Coast of Peru:

Kiva - Maria Esther Old

She runs a motorcycle taxi service and needs some money to repair her two vehicles. I just donated $25, and I hope that some of you who have a few bucks burning a hole in your pocket (which might not be going towards another bike) will join me to help out another motorcyclist.
