In Holland – 1955 Vincent Black Prince Replica

In England, Touring by AbhiLeave a Comment

I call this a “replica” as the frame was originally from a Black Shadow and the engine was originally from a Rapide, but it was given Black prince bodywork in the early 70s and it’s been with the seller since 1976.

The Black Prince was Philip Vincent’s attempt at creating a “two-wheeled Bentley”, and it was fully-faired in an effort to add some comfort to the blistering power of the Black Shadow twin. The performance was undeniable. The styling was quite polarizing. In 2011, an original owner auctioned off his Black Prince, nicknamed Vinnie Long Legs, that he had put 721,000 miles on after 66 years. Impressive!

This example (VIN: RD 12611B) has been upgraded with a modern multi-plate clutch, Amal Mk2 concentric carbs, 18″ Borrani wheels, 12V electric system, electronic ignition, and an electric starter. The seller says that it benefits “from long-term enthusiast ownership and a ‘no expense spared’ attitude to maintenance”, including a $1,200+ service in 10/19 for new spark plugs/plug wires, refurbished magneto, new windshield, and more.
