Offered by my buddy and long term industry legend John Burns, this Yamaha R1 has been featured in both Cycle World and Motorcycle.com. It appears John doesn’t have a use for it anymore so now he’s offering it up for sale so some other nut can enjoy it!

It’s worth reading this article in Motorcycle.com for some details, where you can find out that he sent the bike to Evan Steel Performance “to see if we could get more horsepower out of an old carbureted R1 (my 2000 was the last before EFI) than a new cross-plane crank version.”

The bike only has a few hundred miles on it since the motor was built by Evan Steel, which also included some donated parts from Yamaha plus a crank knife-edged by APE, Akrapovic full exhaust, BMC race air filter, and Dynojet jet kit. It also got a straightened frame, Ohlins steering damper, aftermarket shock (the article says JRi but the listing suggests it’s been replaced by a Penske), Graves shock link, GP Suspension fork kit, Heli bars, and headlights off a Buell XB. It needs a carb clean but then you’ll have yourself a fun reminder of the streetfighters that were so popular in the early 00s.
