Land Speed Record Holder – 1955 BMW R50

Owned by Kevin Brooks, this R50 held the P-PV (Production – Production Vintage) class record at the Bonneville Salt Flats for several years, and it’s said to be the “first 500cc motorcycle of any make to break 100mph while running in the production class.”

Despite its race history, this bike is currently street legal. The ignition system is solid state CDI with a 180W alternator to run street lighting, the carbs have brass slides and have been bored out. The straight-through mufflers retain the original shape to stay P-PV compliant, though “a fully muffle exhaust is also included”. The bike was rebuilt in 2006 to get setup for competition, and the seller states that the chassis was stripped and cleaned after every race season. The sale includes a SCTA logbook.
