Nice Price – 1978 Yamaha SR500

In Japan, Less than 5k, Standard by AbhiLeave a Comment

The seller doesn’t give much information about this bike, but he/she says it “starts, runs, and handles beautifully.” For $1,950 or best offer, I think it’s a winner. Or more three times as much you can get a new SR400 with a smaller motor, a drum in the rear, and other downgrades.

Approximately 15,000 examples of the SR500 were built between 1978 and 1981. Top speed was just shy of the ton thanks to 33 horsepower and a 353 pound dry weight. The bike was released after Yamaha had tremendous success with the XT500 and they decided a street oriented bike built around the 500 single was a good idea. They were right. For more on the SR, check out this article on Motorcycle Classics.

This SR500 is said to be completely stock (it should be noted that the right sidecover is not shown in pictures so I’d clarify if that’s included) so find it for sale in Albany, New York for $1,950 here on Craigslist.
