Post Sale Update: This RS50 sold for $2,950 including buyer’s fee after 4 bids on Iconic Motorbike Auctions in Santa Monica, California.

In my review of the Aprilia RS660, I mentioned that we had a rare-in-the-US RS50 over at Iconic. Well, it’s now running and up for sale on our auction site!

The RS50 was the first mass-produced 50cc with a die-cast aluminum frame, and the styling did a pretty good job aping Aprilia’s bigger bikes. The heart of the ’00 RS50 was a 49.7cc Motori-Minarelli AM6 two-stroke engine paired with a six-speed transmission. Aprilia offered a series of Limited Edition “Identikits” throughout the years, each of which featured a special livery. This example (VIN: ZD4SE00003S006396)has the 2000 “Nastro Azzurro” based on Valentino Rossi’s RSW250 championship-winning racer from 1999. Rossi left Aprilia to join Honda in the top tier 500cc GP Championship before this Identikit was released.

California buyers will probably have to pass (unless you’re just looking for a unique pit bike/track toy) as this is coming out of an estate sale with no title, only a bill of sale. There’s several scratches and a crack in the fairing, but these are hard to find (even more so in the Rossi kit).
