The lyrics (courtesy of Lyrics Mode) if you care to sing along: Said Red Molly to James that’s a fine motorbike A girl could feel special on any such like Said James to Red Molly, my hat’s off to you It’s a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952 And I’ve seen you at the corners and cafes it seems Red hair and …
1987 Suzuki GSX-R 1100
Here’s a nice example of one of the classic 80s sportbikes – Suzuki’s biggest Gixxer. It’s recently been gone through by a seller who’s owned over 10 examples of the model and he says this is the best he’s seen.
Dakar Competitors – 2013 and 2014 KTM 450 RRs
Team Rally Pan Am is “America’s premier motorcycle rally team,” and they’ve been competing for years all over the world. Last year their two riders (Ian Blythe and Scott Bright) placed 26th and 52nd in the Dakar Rally respectively, including a top 10 stage finish by Blythe – 8th place in stage 11. Now both those bikes are up for …
Sidecar Racer in Belgium – 1947 Moto Guzzi Dondolino
Built for privateers, the Dondolino (weirdly, this is Italian for ‘rocking chair’) featured a 498cc OHV single that produced 33 horsepower, good for a top speed of 110 miles per hour. Dry weight was a paltry 282 pounds. The Dondolino was actually introduced the previous year, and it immediately won the Swiss Grand Prix and Spanish Grand Prix, as well …
Video Intermission – A Politician Thanks You
Senator David Leyonhjelm represents New South Wales in Australia, and while you may not agree with all of his political views, I assume you’ll still appreciate this speech he presented in office last fall.
Restored – 1948 Indian Chief
As 1948 rolled around, the Chief was the only model Indian offered. Later that year the Arrow would come around, but that’s a story for another day. Here’s an example that’s been restored to her former glory and recently won a recent People’s Choice Award, to boot.
2001 Triumph Sprint ST
Triumph got a lot of mileage out of their iconic 955cc triple, which at the turn of the century was powering the Speed Triple, Daytona, and the Sprint sport-tourer. It’s an oft-overlooked bike, which means you can get yourself a nice example for a decent deal.
In Italy – 1975 Bimota YB1 350
View PostDockray Built – 1975 Moto Guzzi 850T Custom
Post-Sale Update: This 850T Custom sold for $8,610 after 36 bids on eBay. One of my favorite custom Guzzis of all time was this previously featured beauty built by George Dockray. I was so enthralled by it that I profiled George in an interview as well. I’m thus not surprised that this cool Guzzi was also built by Dockray.
Easy Two – 1952 Norton ES2
Post-Sale Update: This ES2 sold for $8,688.81 after 32 bids on eBay. The ES2 was introduced in 1927 and was originally sold as a sports bike, though by the time production stopped in 1964, it wasn’t particularly competitive in the world of fast motorcycles. Still, an almost 40 year long production run is damned impressive, and this is a lovely …
1995 BMW K1100LT Special Edition
Adorned in “Navana Violet” paint, this Special Edition flying brick is well setup for touring and with just 28k miles on the odometer, it’s got plenty of life left as a one-eyed, one-horned, flying purple mile eater.
2008 Bimota Tesi 3D
Post-Sale Update: This Tesi 3D sold for $26,877 after 30 bids on eBay. Funny Front Ends (FFEs) are awesome, and the hub-steering front suspension found on Bimota’s Tesi 3D might just be the coolest of them all.
1 of 21 – 1968 Greeves Oulton Racer
Chas Mortimer is the only rider to have won races in the FIM World Championship classes of 125, 250, 350, 500, and 750. He was also the original owner of this Greeves Oulton race bike, of which just 21 were ever built.
Stream Online – 2016 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup
This year marks the 10th running of the MotoGP Rookies Cup, and the 7 race series starts this weekend in Jerez, Spain. If you’re a junkie for road racing, you can watch this race online as the rookies compete the same weekend on the same track as their MotoGP idols.
1984 Honda Motocompo
Post Sale Update: This Motocompo sold for $2,025 after 2 bids on eBay. Sold for only 3 years, the Honda Motocompo was a tiny 50cc folding scooter designed to fit into the trunks of the subcompact cars Honda was making at the time, like the City. In fact, the City’s trunk was designed specifically to house the Motocompo. Nowadays, they’re …
