The last time I featured a $100k Honda, it was one of the four original CB750 prototypes. This time we’re skipping ahead a few decades, to a bike that some consider to be the greatest of all time – the Honda NR750. Also known as the RC40, this bike was a technological showcase for Big Red that featured oval pistons, …
Video Intermission – Motorcycle Powered Subaru
The Subaru BR-Z was released to much fanfare a couple of years ago as a sports car for the masses. Unfortunately, some consumers felt the 200 horsepower boxer engine didn’t provide enough oomph (and that’s a debate for another day). You may be wondering why this belongs on a motorcycle site. Well, a company named Synergy Race Engines in Australia …
1 of 800 – 2000 Buell X1 Lightning Millennium
Presumably named after its year of release, the Buell X1 Lightning Millennium was a limited production run (800 bikes) that was all about silver aesthetics. 400 were sold in the US, 375 were sold in Europe, and I have no idea where the other 25 went.
1961 NSU Super Max
After World War II, NSU found themselves with factories that had been destroyed. But they were able to persevere and in 1952 they released the Max, one of the most popular quarter-liter bikes of the 50s – 97,120 bikes were sold. Fast forward four years and NSU introduced the Supermax, which featured a 18 horsepower single good for a top …
1965 Norton Atlas 750
Named after the ICBM, the Norton Atlas was released in 1962, earning a so-so reputation before being replaced by the classic Commando. Built to appeal to American aesthetic preferences, it was initially only produced for export. The Atlas produced 55 horsepower, with plenty of torque available low in the rev range. Utilizing Norton’s famous Featherbed frame, the bike weighed about …

634 Miles – 2003 Honda Valkyrie GL1500C
Outside of the US, this bike was known as the F6C (Flat Six) thanks to the 1,520cc engine pulled from the Gold Wing. This is from the later years of production, after the press had noted their appreciation for the prodigious power and excellent handling/brakes, for a cruiser. If you’d like an example, here’s a review from Motorcycle News .

Build Thread – Project Saguru
I’ve been following this interesting build thread on KLR650.net since late January, and I finally think there’s been enough progress to share for those of you that enjoy build threads. Simply put, it’s “a comprehensive KLR650 transformation journal about turning an econobox dual sport into something better,” and the seller’s attempt at “closing the capability gap” between a KLR and …
