Short Notice – Yamaha Champions Riding School at Streets of Willow

Yamaha Champions Riding School (YCRS) is one of the premier names in American motorcycle instruction, but it can be difficult to attend their program if you don’t live close to their summer home of New Jersey Motorsports Park or their winter home of Inde Motorsports Ranch. They visit tracks all around the country throughout the year, but if you’re in Southern California then you need to act soon because your best chance is this week!

On March 28th and 29th, YCRS is coming down to the Streets of Willow at Willow Springs and they’ll have three different course options. You’ll have to bring your own bike – YCRS rentals are only available at their home tracks.
– ChampSchool (Two Days) – $2,200, but the fine folks at my favorite Los Angeles gear shop (Beach Moto) have arranged a 10% discount if you use the code “BEACH”.
– ChampDay (One Day) – $600
– ChampGrad (One Day) – only for YCRS graduates.

I’d be going myself and learning how to trail brake better if I didn’t have to be in Portugal for the Husky 701 Svartpilen launch (I know, woe is me). From what I’ve heard, the two-day program is the one you want to do:

As I haven’t had the pleasure of trying the course myself yet, I’ll leave you with some reviews from other sources:

Each class starts with math. The idea is that you’ve got 100 percentage points of grip to work with at any given point, and it’s one of the main takeaways from the YCRS program. Here’s instructor Nick Ienatsch explaining the concept in a YouTube video for easy consumption:

Go here for more information on the 2-day program, or go to the schedule to register for a class. I hope the “BEACH” code saves you a few bucks and that you have a wonderful time!
