Who Needs Wheels – 1970 Air Cycle Hovercraft

In America, Custom by AbhiLeave a Comment

No, it’s not really a motorcycle, but it sure is a curiosity! Built by Air Cushion Vehicles, this hovercraft is interesting as the fan is placed in the front, rather than the rear.

Having the fan up front yielded one advantage – you only need one fan! Air from the fan was directed around the sides for thrust and also downwards for cushioning. They were available with a 25 horsepower single or a 33 horsepower twin with MSRPs of $1,295 and $1,495, respectively.

For more information, here’s a review in a 1970 issue of Popular Science.

Want to see some in action? Of course you do.

Find this hovercraft, which is claimed to ‘run good’, for sale in Phillipsburg, New Jersey for $2,500 here on Craigslist.
