1913 Pope

In America, Vintage by Abhi1 Comment

Founded in 1876, Pope Manufacturing Company produced bicycles, motorcycles, and automobiles until about 1918. With that said, Pope bicycles still live on under the Columbia Manufacturing Inc. name. Though Pope started in 1876, they didn’t start making motorcycles until 1902.

This big bore single was acquired as an engine and partial frame in 2000, and the seller took over a year to collect all the missing parts. It was then restored with some parts being rebuilt, and others fabricated from scratch based on photos from old books. The seller claims that this model was specifically built as a board track racer and is one of just two that are left. I can’t verify that, but it’s still an interesting motorcycle. Here’s a video from the seller that apparently shows the bike ‘running for the first time in 100 years’.
