Walter Barlow has been a frequent contributor to Bike-urious over the years – this time he’s got a bike for sale! I’ll leave the description to him:
1972 Penton Six Day 125
Post Sale Update: This Penton sold for $4,150 after 15 bids on eBay in Dardanelle, Arkansas. The Penton Six Day was a very important motorcycle – it was the start of the commercial relationship between John Penton and KTM.
No Reserve – 1967 Sears Allstate Puch 250 Twingle
Post Sale Update: This Twingle sold for $1,420 after 25 bids on eBay in Onsted, Michigan. In 1967, Puch updated the styling of their 250 Twingle (two pistons share one combustion chamber). It lost some curves but gained some color, and the distinctive drivetrain was left alone. I’ve featured a couple of these in the past and they never seem …
2019 Husqvarna Vitpilen 701
Jeff Pamer: Recently, I made a decision that I needed a new bike. So, on the web I went, but let’s face it, I was probably there already. What do we do when we’re up to date on all the things the internet has to offer in motorcycling? Well, you reach out to the other people you know that are …
Steyr-Daimler-Puch 250 Racer
2-10-20 Update: Another 3+ years later and this Puch is up for sale again. It’s since moved to the Midwest and the price has dropped once more. You can now find it at Throttle Stop in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin with a BIN of $8,000 or best offer here on eBay. 8-15-17 Update: 4 years later, this gorgeous racer is back …
2011 KTM 990 Adventure 30th Anniversary Dakar Edition
A reminder that adventure bikes can occasionally look good, this KTM 990 is adorned in a 30th Anniversary Dakar livery that celebrates KTM’s first entry into the legendary race in 1981. The 990 is one of the best adventure bikes of all time, especially for someone that spends lots of time in the dirt. It’s held up well enough that …
Austrian Army – 1985 KTM 250 Krad
Another day, another bike I had never heard of before! I’ve seen this referred to as the 250 Krad or the 250 GL Krad – whatever you call it, it’s cool! A translated German Wikipedia page suggests that it was used by the Austrian and Norwegian armed forces and had optional skis for snow/ice riding. The air-cooled 245cc 2-stroke single …
2008 KTM 950 Super Enduro
The KTM 950 Super Enduro is one of the greatest all-around motorcycles of all time. If you haven’t had a chance to experience it for yourself, here’s a heavily-farkled example to experiment with.
Erzbergrodeo Competitor – KTM Super Duke 1290
Filed under “didn’t this guy know that KTM already makes a 1290 Adventure?” is this fascinating custom, which started as a Super Duke and is now an off-road “Beast” that has competed in the legendarily-difficult race, the Erzbergrodeo.
$3,430 Off – 2019 Husqvarna Svartpilen/Vitpilen 701
I’m a big fan of both the Vitpilen 701 and the Svartpilen 701, though an easy criticism is the $11,999 MSRP. But they sure get a lot more interesting if a dealer was knocking off $3,430 from the price…
2007 KTM 690SM
Sold between 2007-2011, the KTM 690SM was an excellent option for riders who wanted the handling joy of a supermoto racer that was toned down enough to be street friendly. These bikes wont’ win any all-around competitions, but if you emphasize agility and don’t spend a lot of time on the highway, it’s hard to do much better.
1978 Puch Sport MKII
Post Listing Update: This Puch did not meet reserve despite 46 bids up to $1,095 on eBay. 1973 was a bad year for cars but a great year for mopeds. The oil crisis made consumers look at more efficient forms of personal transportation, and companies like Puch benefitted from a lineup full of small mopeds like te Maxi. The Maxi …
1977 Penton/KTM MC5 250
KTM’s early success in the US was due to John Penton, which is why Penton’s name could be found on US-sold KTMs through 1977. Here’s one of the last bikes with John’s name on the tank, and it’s just gone through a restoration.
Never Started – 1968 Sears Campus 50
The Campus was one of several Sears-branded two-wheelers that were built by Puch for the American market. The moped featured a 2.6 horsepower 49cc engine, and the whole package weighed about 115 pounds ready to ride.
Turnkey Factory Racer – KTM RC390 RC Cup
Ran in conjunction with the domestic Moto America series, the KTM RC Cup was designed to give young, up-and-coming riders a chance to race on factory-grade machines, with assistance from professional support (mechanics and the like). Every rider in the series campaigned aboard the same bike; factory-prepped RC390’s brimming with trick racing bits.
