In 1982 I thought Honda had just tried to upsell the market some cheap horsepower by putting a turbo on the CX500. Upon further review there is more to the story.
3 Classic Mopeds
A seller in Los Angeles is letting go of three oddball mopeds – two run, but the third isn’t producing a spark.
1970 Speedway Silver Shadow
Post Listing Update: This Silver Shadow did not meet reserve despite 26 bids up to $7,500. I’m not a huge fan of minibikes, but this is one of the most collectible of them all. Don’t believe me? Well, bidding is already up to $7,300 with plenty of time to go in this auction. I’ve seen one or two non-definitive mentions …
Guess That Engine
You guys are too good at these ‘Guess That Bike’ posts, so I’m going to try and make them harder – let’s see how that goes.
1963 Moto Guzzi Falcone 500 Sport
Despite the fact it was built between 1950 and 1963s, the design of the Falcone is impressively similar to the first production Guzzi from back in 1921. The 499cc single produced 23 horsepower, good for a top speed of about 85 miles per hour.
Video Intermission – Peter Hickman at the Macau GP
Good lord, street circuits are terrifying.
1967 MTD Trail Flite Mini Bike
One of the rarer trail bikes out there, the Trail Flite stood out with features like wire wheels, drum brakes, and the nifty leading link suspension.
1969 Gemini SST 50
Imported for just three years, the Gemini SST 50 was much faster than a Honda Z50 thanks to a licensed design of the Yamaha 50cc rotary engine. Alright, so it’s no speed demon, but those in the know suggest that these are some of the fastest mini bikes ever built – the 50cc engine produced 4.5 horsepower and was capable …
2014 Ducati 1199 Panigale Superleggera
Every so often a motorcycle comes along that is just too beautiful. On the Superleggera beauty is way more than skin deep.
Street Fighter Flying Brick – BMW K100RS
What was once a K100RS has now become an angular custom that looks like it was sponsored by Halloween. I do think there are some interesting parts of this build – what do you think?
1953 Hoffman Gouverneur
Best known for bicycles and Vespa Scooters (60,000 from 1949 to 1954) the firm Hoffmann-Werke Lintorf hired a noted designer to develop this bike and brought the Gouverneur to market in 1951.
A Gift from Kenny Roberts – 1975 Yamaha TZ750
Cycle World called the TZ750 one of the six greatest motorcycles of all time, thanks to a racing pedigree that included nine straight wins at the Daytona 200.
2014 Honda Grom Custom
Here’s proof that we will hotrod anything, even the little cult bike-ette with the too-cute name—the Honda Grom. Like the purse dog who thinks it’s a Doberman, this 125cc motorcycle somehow presents itself as much larger than the sum of its parts. There’s always the guy who will go way over top, and here’s his project.
Clean Commando – 1974 Norton Commando 850
Thanks to a recent repaint, this 850 Commando looks beautiful, and it’s claimed to run like new. Here’s your chance to re-enact that Peter Egan article from a couple of weeks ago…
1968 Sears Allstate Puch 250 Twingle
Post Listing Update: This Twingle did not get any interest at the BIN of $1,850. It’s early March 1967. Our basketball team had qualified for the State Tournament and I had 4 days in the big city with nothing to do except one game per day. Much of my ‘unsupervised’ time was spent looking at motorcycles (I was already hopeless). …
