The Beater Olympics

In Blog by Abhi1 Comment

No bikes today – because Bike-urious is busy all day hosting the first Beater Olympics!

Stay tuned for results, but here’s a preview. In the last 5 days we’ve sourced a few $500 bikes on Craigslist for riders to compete with…bikes like:

“The Black Widow” – a Zongshen 200 that was named because we realized it was infested with the notable spider after we brought it home and took it apart.

It only seemed reasonable to give it a black paint job with an exposed red hourglass shape underneath, just like the spider:

Then there’s “Betty” – a Honda VTR 250 that was previously owned by a woman who let her teenage daughter decorate the bike. With angel/devil Betty Boop stickers on it, the name stuck. Impressively, Betty didn’t really need any work:

Lastly, a Honda XR350R that we haven’t named yet because we just bought it yesterday and have spent all of our time making it safe instead of putting around on it:

Who needs front brakes?

Today these bikes (and more) will be put to the test in the Beater Olympics…I’ll let you know how it goes. Regular programming resumes on Sunday!

Best,
Abhi
