R100 Motor – 1982 BMW R65LS

In Germany, Standard by AbhiLeave a Comment

The R65LS gets more attention than it probably deserves thanks to the striking Hans Muth-designed fairing, but one of the common complaints was that the ~45 horsepower twin didn’t back up the futuristic-in-the-80s looks. A previous owner of this machine apparently agreed, as it’s been given the heart of a R100. It’s not clear which form of the R100 motor …

Needs Some Work – 1963 IWL Troll

In Germany, Scooter by Tim HuberLeave a Comment

First founded in 1936 by the Daimler-Benz Company for the purpose of producing military aircraft engines, Industriewerke Ludwigsfelde — or IWL — was a German manufacturing firm based just outside of Berlin. Because IWL was making engines for the Luftwaffe, its factory was targeted and bombed during WW2. After the war, the Soviets came and stripped most of the remaining …

1954 BMW R25/3

In Germany, Standard by AbhiLeave a Comment

The seller of this beautiful R25 has “traced its lineage/owners back as far as 1968,” noting that he’s got a “reasonably accurate history, down to the Swiss ammo pouch that belonged to Dieter Drews who mounted it on the luggage rack circa 1983, exactly where it resides to this day.”

2007 BMW R1200S

In Germany, Sport by Mazlow PetosaLeave a Comment

BMWs R1200S never gets as much time in the limelight as the GS model. Personally, I can’t wait to ride an HP2, but every flavor has their advantages. In 2007, new pistons brought the boxer engine to 122hp and 89hp, a 22hp increase over the R1200GS. Additionally, weight was reduced 29 lbs over the previous R1100S. Optional Ohlins suspension offered …

What Do You Want To Know? 2020 BMW S1000RR

In Germany, Sport by AbhiLeave a Comment

Give me a moment to shed a tear – the asymmetrical headlight design has been killed off. 10 years ago, BMW redefined what a modern superbike could be, and it wasn’t just from a performance standpoint. The shark gills and oddball headlights made the S1000RR the most visually-distinctive offering in the class, while the engine (lightest and most powerful) and …

Never Ridden – 2001 BMW R1150R

In Germany, Standard by AbhiLeave a Comment

BMW’s R1150R standard wasn’t a particularly sexy bike, but they’re excellent workhorses for taller commuters or people that just want to travel on two wheels. That’s why they typically cover lots of miles in a given year, and it’s what makes this example particularly special as it has just 2km on the odometer (the bike is in Canada) because it’s …

1928 BMW R52

In Germany, Touring, Vintage by AbhiLeave a Comment

Designed to be a tourer, the BMW R52 featured a 486cc boxer twin that generated 12 horsepower. The three-speed transmission had just been redesigned for this model, during a time frame when BMW was constantly making changes. Due to this, BMW switched to pressed-steel frames by the end of 1929, meaning the rare R52 was produced for just two years.
