Post-Sale Update: This LeMans sold for $6,500 after 22 bids on eBay. As a child of the 80s who loves straight lines, I always enjoyed the styling (and the giant white Veglia tach)of the Le Mans Mark 3. Those were a few of the 80 changes that Guzzi made between the Mark II and III.
1973 Yamaha RD/Redline 100 Road Racer
Here’s Justin’s first feature, about a rare Redline-framed RD100!
1954 Ariel Square Four MKII Custom
You don’t normally think of an Ariel Square Four as the platform for a British custom, but this bike was given a 2.5 year long frame off restoration and turned into a ‘cafe racer’ in the process. I’m not entirely thrilled with the results – but what do you think?
2004 BMW R1150GS Adventure
Here’s Matt’s first post – featuring the juggernaut that is the BMW GSA!
Start a Classic BMW Collection!
None of these bikes are individually a smoking deal or anything, however it’s cool to see one guy cranking out restorations (and we’ve seen the R50 Hot Rod before!)
2001 BMW R1150GS Custom
The R1150GS sold very well, but almost all the modifications riders make are farkles for long distance touring. This bike has also had some cosmetic work done – how do you think it went?
Tube-Framed Buell – 1997 Buell Cyclone
If ever there were a philosophical mis-match in the moto world, it had to be the marriage of Erik Buell and Harley-Davidson Motor Company. An avowed motorcycle racer and sport bike enthusiast, Buell built his first competition motorcycle in 1983 and went on to design and build Sportster-engine based street bikes. Harley began acquiring Buell’s company in 1993 and had …
1974 Bultaco Sherpa T 350 Model 151
In 1964, Bultaco introduced their iconic trials bike, the Sherpa. For the first 8 years, only a 250 was offered, though in ’72 they introduced a 326cc engine and called that the 350.
1960 BSA Golden Flash
Despite the name, the Golden Flash (named for the “Polychromatic Golden Beige” scheme) was only available in black for home-market British customers. Thankfully, this export model has no such problem.
1996 Honda CBR600 Smokin Joe’s
Kids – smoking is bad. But tobacco companies sure have been responsible for some of the coolest racing liveries in history, whether it’s cars or bikes. After Miguel Duhamel won the AMA Championship in 1995, Honda offered a replica paint scheme of the Smokin’ Joe’s livery that graced Miggy’s bike.
Reflect On This – 2007 Chrome Chopper
With the latest chopper craze safely behind us (for now) nice examples of the genre are now available for pennies on the dollar. The Tuetuls and Jessie James’ of the motorcycle world felt the need to get ever more creative in an attempt to stand above the rest and at times the results got a little, uh, outlandish.
1972 Bultaco Metralla Road Racer
Post-Sale Update: This Metralla sold for $4,545 after 25 bids on eBay. This Metralla looks beautiful thanks to a new replica fuel tank, tail/seat, and fender. Built as a road racer that would qualify for AHRMA 250, it will need to be brought back to life as it’s been sitting for a couple of years. It has been sitting for …
In Belgium – 1970 Velocette LE Police
Post-Sale Update: This Police Velo sold for $4,026 after 22 bids on eBay. The Velocette was a commercial flop but it did have some success with British police officers – leading to the nickname of “Noddy bike”. Here’s an example that served with the London Metropolitan police force before it was acquired by a Dutch rider in 2010.
1971 Simson Schwalbe
The Simson Schwalbe (German for Swallow) was a moped built between 1964 and 1986. They were never officially imported to the US, but here’s one that just crossed the ocean.
Style Meets Speed – 1977 Honda CB750
Take a run of the mill CB750, remove all the bad bits and replace them with good bits and what do you have? A Seeley, most likely.
